Benjamin Wei, M.D.

Dr. Benjamin Wei is a board-certified and experienced cardiothoracic surgeon practicing at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital. Currently, he is an associate professor of surgery and program director of cardiothoracic surgery residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dr. Wei’s interests include lung and esophageal cancer surgery, such as for pleural mesothelioma, robotic-assisted and video-assisted thoracic surgery. He received his medical degree from Columbia College of Physicians & Surgeons. Dr. Wei then completed a five-year general surgery residency at New York Presbyterian Hospital-Columbia and a three-year cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at Duke University. In 2013, he started his work at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. There, he focuses on training the surgeons of tomorrow through his role as the program director of thoracic surgery residency.
