Mesothelioma News New York Developer Cited for Eighteen Asbestos Violations

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

An ongoing investigation of a New York developer has led to eighteen federal agency citations against the company involved. The investigation of State Assets LLC based in Brooklyn, New York began back in June when an inspection by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration began due to the complaints made by employees.

According to Occupational Safety and Health Administration officials the inspection resulted in the discovery that State Assets failed to monitor the amount of asbestos that employees at the work site were exposed to, that the company did not properly establish asbestos abatement areas, and that State Assets did not provide their employees with the proper protective equipment required during removal of asbestos including eye protection, protective clothing, and respirators.

Exposure to asbestos fibers can result in the development of any one of a number of diseases caused by the dangerous substance. Such diseases include mesothelioma, asbestosis, and lung cancer. Because these diseases often have a long latency period treatment options for those diagnosed are often very limited.

State Assets LLC allegedly violated eighteen building site health and safety standards and now faces possible fines in amounts totaling $48,100. The company has up to 15 business days to either contest the allegations or meet with Occupational Safety and Health Administration officials.
