Did you mean Mesothelioma?

“Mesothemioma” is a misspelling of the word mesothelioma (“pronounced mez-uh-thee-lee-YOH-muh). Caused by asbestos exposure, mesothelioma cancer is very rare, but is also always fatal. The National Cancer Institute published a report in 2003 stating that an estimated 71,000 cases of this illness may still require treatment between 2003 and 2054.

Unfortunately, this forecasted number does not include the treatment required by the millions in New York City who were exposed to asbestos back during the terrible 9/11 events. These individuals, as well as World War II Navy vets, construction workers, and other laborers, are considered to be at an increased risk of developing mesothelioma.

Mesothelioma has a latency period of as many as fifty years, so those exposed to asbestos may not develop symptoms of an asbestos illness until they are in their late sixties or seventies. It is important to monitor your respiratory health closely as you age if you have been exposed to asbestos.
