Did you mean Mesothelioma?

Mesofylioma is a common misspelled variation of the word “mesothelioma,” (pronounced meez-OH-thee-lee-oma). Mesothelioma is a rare cancer that develops in the mesothelial cells which surround the body’s internal organs and other structures, a thin lining known as the mesotheliuma. The most common variety of mesothelioma is malignant pleural mesothelioma, which occurs in the lining of the lungs and chest wall. Mesothelioma can also occur, though with less frequency, in the lining of the abdominal cavity and heart. Given the aggressiveness of the disease, few treatment options exist that effectively cure the disease, though it can be managed through standard malignant treatment regimens, including surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy.

Mesothelioma is known only to be caused by asbestos exposure. Asbestos was an industrial insulation material that was eventually phased out of production once its association with cancer became clear. Many of those who worked with or around asbestos have been diagnosed with mesothelioma as a result of this exposure. Those who have worked with asbestos in the past should consult with their physician about possible symptoms that may indicate and asbestos related health condition. If you have been diagnosed with mesothelioma or other asbestos related disease, please fill out the brief form on this page and received a complimentary mesothelioma information kit.
