Did you mean Mesothelioma?
Meslthelioma is a misspelled version of “mesothelioma,” (“pronounced mez-uh-thee-lee-YOH-muh). Mesothelioma is a cancer that originates in the lining of the body’s internal organs known as the mesothelium. Mesothelial cells surround the lung (pleura), abdominal cavity (peritoneum), and heart (pericardium). Of these, pleural mesothelioma is the most common variety of the disease. Mesothelioma is known only to be caused by previous exposure to asbestos, a natural mineral used for industrial capacities leading up to the late 1970’s, when its toxicity became more well known.
Mesothelioma treatment options vary by patient and stage of disease at diagnosis but may include surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. Mesothelioma has now known cure but treatments can dramatically decrease patient discomfort as they battle their illness. Those exposed to asbestos who have been diagnosed with mesothelioma may be eligible for financial compensation as there is evidence to suggest that corporations were well aware of the danger of asbestos even as it was still actively used.
