Dr. Scott Gettinger serves as an assistant professor of medicine at the Yale University School of Medicine Cancer Center in the department of medical oncology. He is also operates a secondary private practice with offices in New Haven Connecticut.
Dr. Gettinger enrolled at the State University of New York at Brooklyn College of Medicine in New York City, receiving his medical degree in 1999. He then completed a residency program with a focus in internal medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. His fellowship was focused in medical oncology and hematology and was completed in 2005 at Beth Israel. While completing his fellowship, Dr. Gettinger became involved with a number of different oncology programs, most notably those focused on the treatment of malignancies of the head and neck.
Dr. Gettinger has a keen interest in the treatment of malignant mesothelioma and has researched mesothelioma and other malignancies thoroughly during his time at Yale. In addition to mesothelioma, Dr. Gettinger has clinical and research interests in lung cancer, thymoma, neck cancer, and cancers of the chest wall. Some of his more prominent work has been done in the fields of radiosensitizers and prognostic biomarkers. Among the more notable of his treatment programs are multidisciplinary approaches to head and neck cancers which have shown great success in improving patient survival and prognosis in these fields.
