Dr. Frank C. Detterbeck
Dr. Frank C. Detterbeck is a professor of surgery at the Yale University Cancer Center Thoracic Oncology Program Clinic in New Haven, Connecticut. His specialties are far ranging but his specific interest lies in lung cancer, lung metastases, esophageal cancer, thymoma, chest wall tumors, and other areas of thoracic oncology. Dr. Detterbeck has also been known as one of the country’s leading experts in the treatment of malignant mesothelioma, which occurs in the lining of the lung.
Dr. Detterbeck received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan in 1976 and then proceeded to enroll in Northwestern University’s School of Medicine, receiving his M.D. in 1983. After receiving his medical degree, Dr. Detterbeck completed his residency in cardiothoracic surgery at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. He then completed a fellowship in thoracic transplantation, also at the UNC Chapel Hill.
Dr. Detterbeck was certified by the Board of Thoracic Sugery in 1992. He is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Association for Thoracic Surgery and the Cardiothoracic Surgery Network. Dr. Detterbeck is also the author of a acclaimed text on the treatment of lung cancer, The Diagnosis and Treatment of Lung Cancer: An Evidence-Based Guide for the Practicing Clinician. Dr. Detterbeck has also averaged over one new publication each month since the year 2000.
