Dr. Dong Shin is associate director of the Emory Winship Cancer Institute headquarted at the Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta Georgia. In addition to his directorship, Dr. Shin holds the position of professor of hematology and oncology and director of the translational cancer prevention program.
Dr. Shin is a native of South Korea and completed his medical training at the Yonsei University College of Medicine in Seoul. His internship program was completed at the Yonsei University Hospital before enrolling in an additional internship program at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. He remained in the United States from there forward, beginning a fellowship at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. He was appointed to his current position at Emory in 2005.
Dr. Shin specializes in the treatment of cancers with effects on the aerodigestive biology of the head, neck, and lungs. He is considered to be at the forefront of his field among his peers and has been well acclaimed and awarded for his work. Among his more notable distinctions are the Award of Clinical Oncology Career Development issued by the American Cancer Society in 1991. In 2000, Dr. Shin received the Faculty Scholar Award from the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.
