Among her more notable achievements has been the integration of chemical indicators and therapies into mesothelioma research. Src kinase proteins, now fundamental to the understanding of cancer, can replace healthy-cell signaling when cellular health has been compromised. Under Dr. Tsao’s leadership, the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center has now translated these advancements from the laboratory into full scale clinical-trials for mesothelioma involving protein inhibitors. Even as mesothelioma is a rare cancer, the more we learn about it through the advancements of researchers like Dr. Tsao, the better position we will be in going forward to help others diagnosed with this difficult disease.
