Navy Aircraft Carriers

Navy Carrier Mesothelioma

An aircraft carrier is essentially a warship that is structured to deploy and recover aircraft – in essence, an aircraft carrier is a traveling airbase. Integral to the U.S. Navy, carriers have served for hundreds of years and were an important part of World War II. A number of carriers were built during this time, including the USS Bogue, which was one of the few Escort-class carriers ever built, as well as both the USS Independence CVL-22, the first light-class carrier, and the USS Independence CV-62, which maintains one of the longest serving records for a Naval vessel.

Aircraft carriers played an important role in WWII emergencies, as they permitted the takeoff and landing of U.S. airplanes. For instance, the aircraft launched from the decks of the USS Bogue sunk several German submarines and provided integral air support. Many WWII-era carriers received battle stars and Presidential Unit Citations for their service following the war.
