Hydrogen Flouride
Hydrogen Flouride, also known as Hydrofluoric Acid, is released in gaseous form by U.S. oil refineries. It is extremely corrosive and can poison the human body if inhaled or absorbed. Hydrogen Flouride exposure can lead to neurological, respiratory, gastrointestinal and reproductive system problems, as well as cardiovascular and musculoskeletal issues.
Over 1 million pounds of Hydrogen Flouride are released into the air in the U.S. each year. Ohio, Pennsylvania and North Carolina produce the most Hydrogen Flouride waste. Output of this toxin is regulated by the Clean Air Act and Occupational Safety and Health Act.
